The CERN Archive
The CERN Archive is a repository for records about all aspects of CERN's history, from 1954 until the present day. It includes files of letters, memos, reports, notes and other documents created or received in the course of their duties by former Directors-General and other senior staff, by the CERN Council and subordinate Committees, and by CERN Departments, and selected Experiments and Committees. In addition to the CERN fonds, it also contains the Wolfgang Pauli Archive, a collection of correspondence, manuscripts and other material representing the scientific legacy of Wolfgang Pauli (Nobel Laureate, 1945).

The CERN Archive database is freely accessible; however, not all items listed in it are available for public consultation (see the rules for access). Full texts are available for many items in the Wolfgang Pauli Archive, but there is generally no on-line access to documents in the main CERN Archive (many CERN scientific reports are available via the CERN Library database). To request a document or for any other assistance please either contact the CERN Archivist or the CERN Library desk - we would be happy to help.
To find a document
There are two main ways to search the Archive:
- The CERN Document Server is a searchable database giving information about files in the archive.
- The CERN Archive guide gives an overview of record groups in the archive.
