Internal Organization of CERN - Historical Chart

The European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) came formally into being on 29 September 1954 following ratification of the convention establishing CERN by the Member States. Since those early days CERN has changed greatly. It has changed in the physics it confronts, in the scale and complexity of the research instruments it operates, in the physical appearance of its Laboratory, and in its organisational structure.

This chart shows the history of some of these organisational changes.
